Originally platted in 1889 by early homesteader Frederick Howard, the name was derived from the Latin word for "sun" (Sol) and Howard's betrothed, Anna. The couple married and built a home at Howard Street and Shore Drive, near the current Elks Lodge. At the time, pineapple cultivation had become a major industry in Punta Gorda, and Howard sold 8 acres along the south side of Dixie Highway (State Road 17, later US Hwy 17) to the Solana Pinery. By 1925, the pineapple industry had declined and the area was replatted as "Pineapple Terrace." The development was eventually bisected through eminent domain by the development of US Hwy 17 and became a mobile home park, which was destroyed in 2004 by Hurricane Charley. Trabue Holdings, LLC acquired the property in 2018 and is reviving the property through development of individual manufactured home sites.
